"Rajasthan", "Faridkot", "Barwani" — their very names conjure up the mysteries of the East. Natural dyes, brilliant colours and designs, unfamiliar faces and coats of arms, mysterious symbols, calligraphies and other exotic features make the Princely States of India among the most exciting areas of philately.

Besides being a fascinating area to collect, the stamps and postal history of the Princely States are among the most misunderstood. In the past I worked closely with Dr. Frits Staal, an acknowledged authority in the field and without whose expertise I would have been reluctant to take on such a challenge.

(It is well known among collectors and students of the stamps of the Princely States of India that the Stanley Gibbons Catalogue provides the most reliable and detailed listings of these stamps. A listing which continues to be revised, improved and refined. This price list follows Stanley Gibbons numbering system.)
